Out Of The Dust Activity
Stanza 1:
First Rain
pg 105
Soaked to my underwear,
I can’t bear to go
through the schoolhouse door,
I only want to stand in the rain.
Analyze:
I think this means that even though Billie Joe is soaked from the rain, she still loves it. Billie Joe hardly gets rain, so she rather stand in it than go into the schoolhouse.
Relate:
California doesn’t get that much rain, but not as undersized, as Oklahoma. Like Billie Joe, I really like rain. Because we both have sparse amounts of rain the both of us really enjoy it when it rains.
Stanza 2:
Music
pg 222
I’m getting to know the music again.
And it is getting to know me.
We sniff each other’s armpits,
and inside each other’s ears,
and behind each other’s necks.
we are both confident, and a little
sassy.
ANalyze:
I think this stanza means that Billie Joe is starting to try piano again. She is also getting used to playing again, and getting comfortable with reading, and playing music again.
Realate:
I can relate to this passage, because I also play the piano, and recently started to play again after I took a break.
It is a little hard to read the notes like before, but you get used to it. It is important to get comfortable with reading and playing music to play more advanced pieces.
Poems for both stanzas:
Poem 1:
It’s raining outside!
I can’t wait!
My heart is beating,
my ears are ringing,
my feet are tingling!
I grab my coat,
I grab my boots,
I’m ready.
Let’s go!
Poem 2:
I love to play my piano.
I like to unlock the beautiful sound of the keys,
and I am always shocked by the magnificent sound.
I can free myself by playing,
sometimes overplaying,
but that’s alright.
