Do problems in your life make you stronger? BIllie Joe is a girl who has to deal with many unfortunate things; including the loss of her mother. Even after the loss of Billy Joe's mother, more unfortunate things happened. As you can see, Billie Joe has to go through so many hard, and discouraging things.
One of the many things Billie Joe loses, is her hands. In the book, it says that one morning while BIllie Joe’s mom is cooking Billie Joe and her family have an accident with kerosene; which led to BIllie Joe getting her hands burned real bad. As you would think, Billie Joe can’t do very much without hurting her hands in the process. It must have been a very frustrating time for Billie Joe. One joy that Billie Joe had in the midst of all the dust storms, was playing the piano. Now that BIllie Joe’s hands are burnt, she cannot play. As you can see, the one thing that Billie Joe could do to comfort herself is now gone. Billie Joe had to be strong, and secure while going through all of this.
In the book, Billie Joe never gave up. Billie Joe got through all of this because she never gave up, and became stronger every time she faced a new problem. Of course, it was all hard, and very discouraging at times, but she got through it. Billie Joe faced her problems, and got through them. Facing your problems, instead of running away from them, make you a stronger, and braver along the way. As you can see, Billie Joe did get stronger. Billie Joe got stronger, braver, and also wiser.
There are modern day obstacles too. People now can lose one of their parents, just like Billie Joe. As you can see, they have to be strong to deal with the loss. Anyone who has, or had to deal with the loss of a loved one has to be brave, but also strong. Another obstacle people now can go through is poverty. As you know, Billie Joe’s family and their community don’t have a lot of money. Them and people now have to deal with not having a lot of money. However, Billie Joe’s family and community survive, because they are smart with the little money they have.
As a conclusion, obstacles in your life help you grow. Billie Joe had to go through many things, like losing her mom, losing her hands, and living in poverty, but the obstacles in her life made her strong. All those thing made her brave and tolerant.
